Target Audience, Needs Assessment, Learning Objectives

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists, as well as allied oncology healthcare professionals who treat breast cancer.

Needs Assessment
The treatment of breast cancer remains a challenge for oncologists despite recent advances in the management of this heterogeneous disease. Now, in the era of molecular biology, it is important to tailor therapy for each individual patient. Determining which treatment approach is most appropriate for a given patient requires careful consideration of patient and tumor specific considerations. While difficult, these decisions require knowledge of current clinical and experimental data in order appropriately integrate novel therapeutic agents and treatment strategies into everyday clinical practice. This educational symposium provides breast cancer physicians with state of the art therapeutic strategies in different clinical situations and the opportunity to discuss the optimal treatment options with renowned specialists in the field.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
  • Evaluate treatment options for HER-2 positive patients following progression after adjuvant trastuzumab therapy
  • Review optimal treatment options for triple-negative breast cancer
  • Discuss best endocrine treatment modalities for postmenopausal patients with hormone receptor positive early breast cancer
  • Identify unanswered clinical questions regarding the optimal use of endocrine agents for the treatment of hormone-sensitive breast cancer
