Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, and other healthcare providers involved and/or interested in the management of patients with BRCA mutations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  • Summarize the clinical challenges in the management of patients with BRCA mutations
  • Describe genetic factors associated with BRCA mutations, and analyze the role of genetic counseling in patients undergoing BRCA mutation testing
  • Outline appropriate options for breast and ovarian cancer prevention in BRCA mutation carriers
  • Select optimal screening methods for breast cancer in patients with BRCA mutations
  • Discuss management of reproductive concerns in patients with BRCA mutations
  • Analyze local therapy options for patients with BRCA mutation–associated breast cancer
  • Explain the therapeutic rationale for chemotherapy and targeted agents in patients with BRCA mutation–associated breast and ovarian cancer, and examine recent clinical trial data supporting the use of these agents
