Target Audience

Emerging Novel Therapies for Advanced Prostate Cancer: A Practical Approach Toward Clinical Implementation is intended for medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, and other healthcare providers interested in the management of prostate cancer.

Statement of Educational Need

Modern treatment approaches in prostate cancer provide prolonged disease-free survival for many patients with localized disease, but are rarely curative in patients with advanced disease. There is a need to optimize outcomes and identify new therapies for patients with advanced prostate cancer. Though recent clinical trials have provided data supporting new strategies for the management of prostate cancer, integration of new information and novel regimens into practice is both challenging and necessary. As new data become available, it is essential that healthcare providers and researchers are kept abreast of advances in this field.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify unmet therapeutic needs in the management of patients with advanced prostate cancer
  • Compare traditional chemotherapies with novel chemotherapeutic agents in the management of patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer
  • Evaluate novel and emerging targeted therapies for castration-resistant prostate cancer based on recent clinical trial data
  • Discuss the rationale and role of immunotherapy for patients with advanced prostate cancer
