Independent Medical Education (IME) refers to professional education offered by medical and healthcare education providers, such as community hospitals, academic centers, societies/associations, and medical education and communication companies.
The general purpose of IME is to encourage the advancement of medicine and healthcare by educating the medical community and further developing their knowledge in the field.
Methods and materials for teaching may include, but are not limited to the following:

Funding for many IME events/activities may be received through educational grants from pharmaceutical or medical device companies.
